History - a brief history of GCCEA
May 1935 - Rural Electrification Administration (REA) came into existence. In July of 1935 a group of farmers met in Kenyon to discuss the possibility of getting electricity from the Kenyon Municipal Utilities and organized the Farmers' Cooperative Electric Association.
January 1937 - George Bleecker of Cherry Grove Township was named manager and guided the organization through the crucial early years, serving until 1949.
January 1938 - Lines were energized. The first meter was installed on the farm of S.O. Haugen in Wanamingo Township. The first substation was completed at Hader.
January 1940 - The cooperative moved into it's new brick office building on the north end of Main Street.
January 1991 - The Mega-storm, one of the worst blizzards in the Minnesota history, hit the area on Halloween.
January 1994 - A new office and warehouse addition were constructed and completed.
